There and Back Again, A Years Pictorial Journey: Week 26

Grandma's yard is forever blooming
this week's feature is
Columbine

(June 20)

I saw alot of these in the mountains this week where they bloom naturally

This week Mr. J took me with him to a work related conference that was held in Park City, Utah
I mainly went to have a bit of rest--and rest I did.
I confess to staying in my motel room for most of my stay.

(June 21)

this is the view from my motel window

I spent much of the next day, lounging, watching movies on HBO

(June 22)

and reading from my kindle.
I also read a few blogs on the laptop--I had scheduled all my posts before I left.
Dinner was at Ruby Tuesday.
Mr. J ordered an appetizer sampler, we had the salad bar and ordered a few of their mini sandwiches
Then it was back to the room in time to catch NCIS.
Sheesh--I really did take it easy.

Wednesday . . . more of the same . . . except

(June 23)

I did get out to go shopping at the famous "Outlet" strip mall.
It's quite pretty and provides a good walk as well
I bought honey some pretty blue crocs.

I also had lunch at a local pizzeria

(June 23)

Thursday was the last day of the conference
Mr. J took me to a Brazilian Grille for lunch

(June 24)

oh my! it was delicious and so much fun!
I've got to take the kids there some day.

That evening we went to an open air concert
my future son-in-law opened with a guitar solo
and as sweetings said--he was GREAT!
His dad's band was the feature, they played music from South America on authentic instruments
SIL's dad makes the flutes by hand out of bamboo.

They encouraged dancing and well it wasn't long until . . .

(June 24)

the girls even got to play a number with the band
what a delightful evening

Heidi had a birthday on Thursday
she also had a wedding cake
so the girlie's three slept over

(June 25)

I also got to see my newest grand baby for the first time this week

(June 26)

That's right, #6 will be here in December
I'm a happy grandma :D

sorry for the extra pictures
it was just an extra nice week

Summer Stock: the corner candy story

what says summer more than a candy run to the corner grocery store?

When I was a kid we would collect the glass pop bottles, load them up in the radio flyer and haul them down to the Blue Cut Service where we would exchange them for a few dimes.  Then we'd turn around and spend every bit of it on candy and pop.  Good Times!

For my kids Guido's was the hot spot.  Guido was a nice little Italian man that patiently took their pennies and filled up their brown paper sacks--most of the time he would slip in a few extra pieces.

This picture is of my grand kids at a little mom and pop store in an old mining community called Helper.  I wonder what they will remember as their "candy stop" when they look back.

Wednesday Wanderings: Sitting on the Porch

"The best kind of friend is the kind you can sit on a porch with, never say a word,
and then walk away feeling like it was the best conversation you've ever had."

Tuesday Teaser: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

by

F. Scott Fitzgerald

Mr. Button's eyes followed her pinting finger, and this is what he saw.  Wrapped in a voluminous white blanket, and partly crammed into one of the cribs, there sat an old man apparently about seventy years of age.

Monday Movies: Back To The Future

hosted by Molly at the Bumbles

this weeks topic . . . is all about time travel

Molly's blog buddy Jahara is hosting this week.  She mentioned two films about time travel that I love.  "The Lake House" starring Sandra Bullock and "Kate and Leopold" starring Meg Ryan.

So then I had to put my thinking cap on and come up with a few more.

I am a "trekkie" so the first film I thought of was "First Contact" (1996) the crew of the USS Enterprise travel from the 24th to 21st century to save their future after the cybernetic Borg conquer Earth by changing the timeline.

"The Time Machine" (2002) a film based loosely on H.G. Wells book was another interesting film.  I liked that it was set in New York, I loved the holographic librarian and the futuristic village that was somewhat primitive that he finally found himself in.

I didn't like "Flight of the Navigator" (1986) featuring the voice of PeeWee Herman but my kids watched it so many times that it is ingrained in my memory.

Another film was "Field of Dreams"  (1989) starring Kevin Costner and George Earl Jones. An odd movie about a man obsessed with building a ball field in the middle of a corn field . . .  "If you build it he will come"

Of course a classic time travel novel is Charles Dickens "A Christmas Carol" in which Ebenezer Scrooge visits his past, present and future all in one night.  This story has been made into so many movies that I can't even come up with a number.

And last I really liked Disney's "Meet the Robinson's" (2007) the story of how a son helps his dad out by bringing him to his future.  Very Cute Film.

I actually did catch the 1980's Back to the Future Series in a replay this past week on television.

There and Back Again, A Year's Pictorial Journey: Week 25

My mother-in-law's yard is all abloom this week
(June 13)
I just love oriental poppies

Monday the 4 little ones spent the night

(June 14)
What a crew!

Mr. J has finished the fireplace in the family room

(June 15)
He has a new job and has been so busy getting settled in and going through training that he hasn't had much time to work at the remodel--that's OK, it also coincides with paying for a wedding.
That also put a stop to the remodel . . . temporarily.

Wednesday I hosted Book Club

(June 16)
We read the Book Thief--a book clear full of delicious words
we also had a delicious dessert

Thursday I hadn't taken a picture all day
my future son-in-law stopped by
he had a very unusual belt buckle

(June 17)
an original Nintendo controller

My youngest daughter has been busy going to school, finals were this week
Friday we had a shopping day
we were looking for something for her to wear for her engagement pictures

(June 18)
What do you think?

And to round out the week
my favorite rose has bloomed
"The Peace Rose"
the blooms are bigger than softballs
as buds they are brilliantly yellow
then as they bloom they change to pink
with the softest yellow in the centers

(June 19)
I wait for this beauty all year, the first flush in the spring is always the prettiest.
