Wednesday Wanderings: Fire

The kids had a hankering for marshmallows roasted over a fire the other day--so despite temperatures hovering just above freezing they headed to the outskirts of town, gathered some wood and built a fire

notice the little one with her bare feet extended to the fire and her snowboots on the ground :)

pictures taken by my youngest daughter

here's another fire to remind us of another era

this fully functioning wood stove is located in the kitchen of the American West Heritage Center, the ladies were cooking dinner when I took this picture

I converted the color to sepia then using a paintbrush brought full color back to the fire.  Then I bled color through until just a hint of blue shows in the enamel cookware and the womans dress.  I finished up with lomoish effect and vignette to step it back in time.

KIds are so funny! It's cold so they're by a fire but they take off boots, and socks, lol. Making smores?

I love the one of Iz with no socks on. I swear when I sent her out the door she had some on. :)

Love the toasty toes in the WW post.
My girlfriend had to learn to cook on a wood stove in the first house she lived in after getting married. That was in the sixties . They were in the Navy and some places you could find housing was pretty basic.
I like the final image after all you went through, although I don't know the terminology. MB

I feel too cold to even step outside and there that little one is in bare feet! :)
I love this picture 'through the fire' - nice surreal look.
I wouldn't want to have to build a fire just to cook! I could not be my Grandma.
Love the selective sepia of the fire Kaye!

Love the juxtaposition of the lawn chair / bare feet with the snow and fire :)

We've been checking into wood fireplace inserts and wood cooking stoves out here :)

Kaye! Outstanding! I've been using picnik for editing too but I've never been able to figure out HOW to achieve sepia or b/w and a single punch of color. How oh HOW did you do that on picnik? Email me privately if you like.

Hi ,

Loved the bon fire pic! We've done a lot of that in the past with our Grandkids here at our place!

Your Sepia is very interesting, also.

There's nothing quite like the heat from a woodstove!! Those photos of the kids with their socks off outside it too cute!

Great photo of your barefoot granddaughter in front of the fire with the snow all around. And the other cutie just has her socks on. They are beautiful girls.

That must have been a lot of work cooking on a wood stove in the old days. I have no idea how you did the selective sepia, but it looks great.

This is a fun post ;-)

Mmm roasted marshmellows... Love the photo of the grandkids with their shoes (and socks) off at the fire. What a great shot of so many elements...
Ack I burned my hand on a stove like that when I was visiting family when I was young. Never seen one and didn't know how HOT they get.. wonderful editing job on it.

I love the marshmallows, they are a toasty brown that tastes best to me (at home, some think this is 'burned' - the perfect sepia treat as the coals wither away...

The stove is a cast iron beauty. Nice sepia!
